Shante Scott Franklin, born April 4, 1981, greater known by his stage title Currensy, is definitely an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana.Currensy (true identify Shante Scott Franklin) is often a fly hip hop artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. No Restrict Era
Currensy (often known as Spitta) was signed to No Restrict Data (Grasp P’s label) in 2002; he was a member of the 504 Boyz which also contains Choppa, Krazy, Magic, Grasp P, Silkk the Shocker & T-Bo. The 504 Boyz’s song “Get Back” was featured on the “Malibu Most Wanted Soundtrack”, the song spawn a music video which features a young Currensy rapping on the first verse. While signed to No Restrict Data, Curresy appeared on 5 tracks in Master P’ “Good Side Bad Side” album and made a cameo in Choppa’s “Choppa Style” music video.
Cash Money Era
Currensy signed with Cash Money Record in 2004 until 2007. In 2006, Cash Money released Currensy first single “Where Da Cash At” ft. Lil Wayne and Remy Ma, the song spawned from Lil Wayne’s Dedication 2 mixtape and peaked #73 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The hook on “Where Da Cash At” samples a line from Lil Wayne’s Fireman song. Currensy debut album on Cash Money Record “Music To Fly To” was never released due to lack of promotion and delay. Currensy left Cash Money Record in 2007 and started doing music independently.
The Mixtape and Amalgam Digital Era
After the departure with Cash Money Record, Currensy released a series of mixtapes throughout 2008 which took his buzz to a higher level. Currensy signed with Amalgam Digital in 2009 and released 2 albums on the same year titled “This Ain’t No Mixtape” and “Jet Files.”
The Plane and The Taylor Gang
In 2009, Currensy tag teamed with Wiz Khalifa and released the highly acclaimed “How Fly” mixtape. The mixtape features fan’s favorite songs like “Car Service, Over the Building, and Rolling Up.” The “How Fly” mixtape create a huge buzz for both rappers. Fans of Wiz Khalifa and Currensy are dying for another collaboration effort between these two rappers.
Pilot Talk with Ski Beatz
In 2010, Currensy teamed up with hip hop prolific producer Ski Beatz and released a collaborative album titled “Pilot Talk.” The album features actual life instrumentation which meshes elegantly with Currensy’s flow. The album debuted at #39 on the Billboard chart and sold up to 33,000 in sales (it sold 10,764 copies on the first week). Several music videos were released through Creative Control to promote the albums. The album received favorable reviews from critics like Allhiphop.com, PopMatters, URB, Pitchfork Media and Allmusic.
Shortly after the released of Pilot Talk, Currensy teamed up with Ski Beatz again to release the sequel titled “Pilot Talk 2″ on November 22, 2010. The album features 13 tracks (like the first one) with collaborations from Raekwon Dom Kennedy, McKenzie Eddy, Deelow, Fiend, Young Roddy, and Trademark Da Skydiver. The video “Michael Knight” and “Hold On” was released.
Car, Coup, and More Pilot Talk
Currensy secured a deal with Warner Bros on Feb, 2011 for Jet Life Recordings which consists of Trademark Da Skydiver, Young Roddy and Street Wiz. Currensy fifth studio album “Muscle Car Chronicles” is announced to be released on May 3rd.

According to Jets Fool Blog, Currensy first project on Warner Bros. titled “Covert coup” is set to release on May 3, 2011 (420) for free. “Covert Coup” is really a 10-12 song EP completely produced by hip hop prolific producer The Alchemist.
Within the near future, Currensy is planning on releasing Pilot Talk III, A Jet Life sampler cd, and an album called Puff Daddy.
